RMT Exposes Full Impact Of Tube Cuts On Women, Older And Disabled People And The BAME Community

RMT exposes full impact of tube cuts on women, older and disabled people and the BAME community

As the tube action enters its third day, with continuing rock solid support, RMT has revealed that London Underground's own assessment of the impact of its proposals on passengers raises concerns that the cuts will have a seriously adverse impact on women, older and disabled people and the BAME community,

The revelations come as RMT General Secretary Bob Crow joins a protest by disabled workers against the tube cuts on Thursday 6th February at 2.30pm at Tottenham Court Road tube station.

Transport For All Describes Tube Plan To Replace People With Machines As Living In La-la-land

Transport For All; the charity campaigning for a fully accessible, reliable and affordable transport network for disabled and older Londoners has written to the Evening Standard describing the horror that disabled and older passengers will feel over tube bosses plans to cut staff.

Transport For All describe it as living in la-la-land to think cctv and ticket machines is a suitable alternative to station staff for the 43% of wheelchair users who have suffered hate crime on the tube, or the 29% of disabled people who feel unsafe using the underground.

Meeting Agenda

RMT Pledges To Fight Tory Attack On Pensioners Travel

RMT pledges to fight Cameron-ally Nick Boles attack on pensioners travel.

RMT General Secretary Bob Crow said

"Nick Boles speaks for the rotten core of the Tory party when he lines up his attack on pensioners' free travel and other well-earned benefits. He knows full well that means-testing the travel pass would stop many who need it from claiming it - cutting off their lifeline and leaving them isolated from the wider world. The Tory right are using the bankers' economic crisis as a cover to take the axe to core pensioners' benefits and we will fight them all the way.

Unions Oppose TfL Attempt to Divide Equalities

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the documentation on file regarding TfL’s proposal to divide its Equality and Inclusion team into two parts, one for staff issues and one for service delivery. We endorse the objections that staff side have raised to this proposal. We further believe that this division inaccurately implies a significant difference between equalities issues facing workers and those facing passengers, whereas workers and passengers share similar a interest in an accessible, non-discriminatory transport system.
