TfL Pay /Jobs/Justice Dispute

Paul Rutland Chair TfL No.1 Branch, writes ...

Although it is great to see some progress being made on the LUL, unfortunately this cannot be said for the TfL side of the dispute. Although at the last talks management reduced the offer to 3 years, this is still disgraceful. On the job loss front, we are still mostly in the dark.

This scenario is of no fault of the RMT negotiators. The blame rests solely on the shoulders of the leaders of the other recognised Trade Unions in TfL (TSSA, UNISON, UNITE, PROSPECT, PCS) who are unwilling to put up any fight and are quite happy to see the RMT members fighting battles we should be united in.

On LUL where the RMT is the majority Union, progress is made as there is a will to fight for terms and conditions. This is what members pay their subs for – not lip service and big adverts saying how fantastic it is to have millions of members. If you are not willing to fight, numbers count for nothing.

We have had RMT Reps threatened with disciplinary action for trying to give information to staff on these issues (including their own members) with certain other Trade Unions colluding and backing the management in this.

Although unrecognised in a lot of areas of TfL we will continue to fight, and would like to thank the members who supported the recent industrial action. These members were shown to be 100% correct, as the progress being made on LUL shows what can be achieved with a fighting Trade Union. Whatever grade or workplace, if staff in TfL wish to see their terms and conditions upheld or improvements fought for, the RMT is the Trade Union for all.
