JULY’S RESOLUTIONS

Reverse Privatisation

  • This resolution was for submission to the Council of Executives. It will be discussed by them at their next meeting, which I believe is in the week starting Monday 7 September.

Fighting the BNP

  • This resolution had three specific mandates:
    • To join the protest against the BNP’s ‘Red White and Blue festival’ in Derbyshire on 15 August - Following publicity by the Regional Council, several RMT members from the Region travelled to this important protest, and the Regional Council Executive agreed to fund their travel.
    • Produce badges - 10,000 badges have been ordered and should be delivered on or around 2 September. Please contact me to arrange collecting some for your workplace/branch.
    • Support an anti-racist conference in July - By the time the resolution was passed, this event had already taken place. However, it was added to the Regional Council diary and publicised when the resolution was submitted ie. before the event!

OLDER RESOLUTIONS

Where is our RMT challenge to LU/TfL? (May)

  • I have written to the General Secretary asking for a written response to this resolution. Although we have heard several verbal reports, I believe that a written response would make it easier for members in our Region to understand what the legal advice is and what prospects there are for legal challenge(s).
  • I have also specifically requested that the union seeks legal advice as to whether LUL and TfL have breached their obligations under the Gender Equality Act 2006, given that the job cuts disproportionately affect female-dominated grades.

Branch membership lists (May)

  • Branch Secretaries are reminded that you are now due to bring up-to-date membership lists to head office.

Caseworker / Support Worker (April)

  • I have received no report from the General Secretary about this, so I have written to him asking about progress.

Cleaners - London Living Wage (March)

  • After persistent enquiries, I have finally discovered that the General Grades Committee made a decision on this resolution on 1 June, agreeing several actions to take the issue forward.
  • You can read their decision in full on our website here.
