MARCH’S RESOLUTIONS

Cleaners

  • This resolution was passed on to the Council of Executives.
  • The Regional Council has resourced one of our sacked cleaner reps to carry out organising work around depots for two days per week for three weeks (cost: £630).
  • We are holding a cleaners’ organising week this week, funding three reps to carry out this activity (cost: £1,050).
  • This money is from additional funding from head office specifically for this organising activity.
  • We will assess the results of this work, decide how to proceed, and apply for further funding from the national union.

Training and Strategy re Employment Act 2008

  • This resolution was passed on to the Council of Executives.
  • Head office has sent a letter about the Act to branches and regional councils, with the new ACAS Code of Practice. The Regional Council Executive has asked the General Secretary to send this letter and Code of Practice directly to all reps.
  • We have also asked the General Secretary to organise a two-day training course for reps about this new legislation and to arrange paid release for reps to attend.

OLDER RESOLUTIONS

Jobs/PayJustice Dispute (various resolutions)

  • This will be covered in the reports from the Regional Organiser and Council of Executives member.
  • The Regional Council needs to fund the strike committee that it voted to set up. Regular costs will be for room hire and a mobile phone (total: £110 per month).
  • The Regional Council Executive has asked the Secretary to float to other trade union bodies the idea of a national rank-and-file campaign against management bullying.

Stations Supervisors’ Conference on Cleaners’ Issues

  • Pat O’Brien will be organising this in conjunction with the cleaners’ grade and Finsbury Park branch.

Recruitment & Retention

  • The Regional Council Executive has set up an organising team. If you would like to join the team, contact Dave Rayfield.

Supporting Reps - March 08

  • The Regional Council (with assistance from the Organising Unit) held a training day on producing effective printed materials on Wednesday 15 April.
  • We held our first monthly training workshop for reps and members last month, on organising effective industrial action. We have produced two printed Tips for Reps and Activists on preparing for industrial action and effective picketing.
  • May’s workshop will take place on the afternoons of 13 and 14 May, on understanding the anti-union laws - details here.
  • We are asking head office to fund several of our bus worker reps to attend training.

Regional Council website - www.rmtlondoncalling.org.uk - August 08

  • The website has 520+ articles on it, and nearly 200 registered users.
  • We have a ‘website team’ responsible for running the site. If more people join this team, then we can expand and improve the website. If you’d like to join the team, contact Janine Booth.
  • We have set up regional e-mail newsletters for members (cost: £50 per year) and for reps & activists (cost: £20 per year). With the Regional Council’s agreement, we can set up an e-mail newsletter for our bus members (cost: £20 per year).
