Proposed By Laws

Stratford no.1 branch will be considering adopting the following by-laws at its next meeting, 9 April.

1. The name of the Branch shall be Stratford no.1 branch.

2. Branch meetings shall be held at the Ex-servicemen's club, Leytonstone, every month but this may be varied from time to time as circumstances demand.

3. The meeting shall open at 17.00hrs and close at 19.15hrs.

4. Special meetings to deal with important matters may be called by a resolution at an ordinary meeting; or by the Chairperson through the Secretary when necessary, or on a signed request by twelve benefit members.

5. The Branch shall have for its Officers a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, three Trustees and an Assistant Secretary (if the branch has more than 100 members). If considered necessary, a Treasurer/Check Steward and Collectors may be appointed.

6. There will also be a Newsletter Editor, Cleaners' Co-ordinator and Political Officer.

7. There shall be a Branch Committee of seven members who, together with the Chairperson and Secretary, shall superintend the business of the Branch. The Committee shall meet as often as required, or as ordered by the Chairperson through the Secretary. Five members, in addition to the Chairperson and secretary, shall constitute a quorum. The Secretary shall not have a vote, and the Chairperson only a casting vote, but both shall have the right to speak.

8. An Officer who is considered by the branch to be incompetent or who fails to perform his/her duty or acts contrary to the Rules of the Union shall be removed and the Branch shall elect another in his/her place.

9. Elected branch officials and representatives must attend at least 50% of Branch Meetings, failure to submit a written report or reasonable apology could result in de-selection from the elected post.

10. The business of the Branch shall be conducted in accordance with the Rules of the Union, the decisions of the governing bodies and the Standing Orders of the Branch.
