Justice for Cleaners Demo

RMT calls Justice for Cleaners Demonstration outside Parliament on 20th July

RMT has called a demonstration outside Parliament as part of the union’s campaign to end the privatisation of cleaning.

The demonstration – Cleaners are Essential; Justice for Cleaners – will take place on 20 July at 12pm opposite Old Palace Yard, Houses of Parliament SW1A 2BE

Throughout the pandemic an unrecognised and low paid army of cleaners has gone into work and put their lives on the line to keep our public transport system safe. This army is almost entirely outsourced to private companies and because of this they are low paid, understaffed and overworked.

New RMT research shows the real cost of outsourcing this essential service.

RMT General Secretary, Mick Lynch, said:

“RMT is demonstrating to make the case for insourcing cleaning and calling for real, lasting changes.

“The Rail Industry Recovery Group and TfL are conducting reviews of their outsourced cleaning, but we can’t leave it to the industry to put its own house in order.

“That is why we are campaigning to build public and political pressure for justice for these essential workers. This demonstration will be a key part of that work.”
