Defend Green Jobs

Becky Crocker, our Regional Young Members' Officer, writes ...

This Thursday 17th September is the second national day of action to support Vestas workers. After 18 days of occupying their factory against closure, Vestas wind turbine workers are maintaining a 24-hour blockade of the site, preventing plant and turbine blades getting out. The workers are demanding the government nationalise their factory, because the market will not guarantee their jobs or the future of the planet!

Some of us from London Transport region will be going along to support the demonstration outside the Department of Energy and Climate Change on Whitehall at 1730hrs on Thursday.

It is important that we in public transport show support for these workers. A serious government commitment to 'green jobs' would benefit our job security in public transport too.

Workers' Climate Action, who campaign for a working class-led fight against climate change, will be leafletting outside Kings Cross between 1600 and 1700hrs on Thursday to get more public support for the Vestas campaign.

Come and help!
