ABM cleaners' strategy meeting planned

To all LT Region Branches

7th February 2017

Dear Colleagues

RMT NATIONALLY RESOURCED CLEANERS RECRUITMENT DRIVE ABM ON LUL

Pleased find attached [below] the transcript of a National Executive Committee decision that was taken in the Boardroom earlier this week.

As you will see a Strategy Meeting has been called for and I am given to understand that this will take place on 26th February 2018. This will be confirmed by the General Secretary shortly and the plan is for cleaner members and other attendees to go out recruiting afterwards.

As I said, please look out for confirmation of this date and the meeting venue from the General Secretary. The purpose of my writing, however, is to say that there may be a number of potential attendees who can’t get paid release from ABM. I do expect activists and cleaning coordinators to make every effort to attend this meeting, and BMFs can be used to pay one cleaner to attend from each Branch.

I thank you in anticipation of your attention to this matter.

Yours sincerely,

John Leach
REGIONAL ORGANISER

Subject: RMT Nationally Resourced Cleaners Recruitment Drive ABM on LUL

This NEC notes window of opportunity created by the creation of one cleaning super-contract on LUL under the new contract holder ABM will not always be open; and is soon to close in real terms as this becomes old news and normalises.
Further; we are appalled that the new company ABM cynically removed the sick pay scheme from ex-Vinci cleaners as they TUPE’ed into ABM; and also that Sadiq Khan the London Mayor has not only done nothing to assist our hard pressed cleaner members; but has presided over the removal by ABM of our ex-Vinci members contractual sick pay scheme.

Therefore we instruct the General Secretary to fully enact the resolution beginning with setting up the organising meeting asap; and arranging a widely publicised demonstration outside City Hall; office of the London Mayor/GLA, and the offices of ABM in the last week of February 2018.

Relevant members to be advised by email and text.

All London Transport Region Branches and the Regional Council to be advised.
