Massive vote for strike action in train prep ballot

Nine to one vote for strike action by over a thousand key London Underground staff

TUBE UNION RMT confirmed today that over a thousand key London Underground maintenance and engineering staff have voted by around nine to one for both strike action and action short of a strike in a dispute over the hacking back of train preparation and inspection schedules which the union warns would have a devastating impact on both service reliability and public safety.

The staff work at tube fleet maintenance depots right across Greater London.

Tube union campaigns for dramatic improvement to Tube air quality

TUBE UNION RMT confirmed today that it will be stepping up the campaign for dramatic improvements in air quality on London Underground amid fears that the situation continues to deteriorate with serious consequences for both staff and passengers alike.

A dossier of issues raised by tube staff includes:

- A number of members suffering with respiratory problems.

- Station staff and drivers having high incidents of chest colds.

- Notable levels of dirt when washing hands and face during or after a shift.

Tube stations left unstaffed for 7,500 hours in 2018

The RMT has submitted a Freedom of Information request that has revealed that stations were left unstaffed on at least 863 occasions last year, totalling 7490 hours.

This comes in spite of London Underground's promise following the much hated 'Fit for the Future' job cuts plan that all stations would be staffed during traffic hours.
