RMT gives guarded welcome to Mayor's London Taxi strategy
Taxi Union RMT gives guarded welcome to elements of Mayor's London Taxi strategy but warns that he has again missed key issue on plying for hire
Mick Cash, General secretary of London Taxi Union RMT said;
"The union gives a guarded welcome to elements of this package that have already been widely trailed and we now expect that our London Taxi reps will be fully engaged in discussions as to how this strategy moves forwards.
"However, we are bitterly disappointed that once again the fundamental issues of illegal plying for hire and the abuse of the regulations by outfits like Uber have been ducked even though they pose the greatest threat to public safety and the future of the black taxi trade.
"RMT will continue to push the Mayor to put the unions concerns about the future of the industry centre stage and we expect to be fully engaged and consulted as his strategy is rolled out. "

RMT members employed by Carlisle Support Services, working on the Northern rail contract will continue their long-running dispute over pay by taking 48 hours strike action from Saturday.
Rail union RMT, will take strike action at Heavy Haul Rail Ltd on Thursday 25 June for 48 hours, after the company refused to rule out compulsory redundancies as part of a major restructuring programme.
Rail workers and industry skills leaders have called for a workforce strategy under Great British Railways, warning that fragmentation, short-term funding cycles and a narrow focus on cutting labour costs are holding back productivity across the railway.
General Secretary Eddie Dempsey said: “The launch of this consultation is a necessary and welcome step towards ending the race to the bottom that has blighted much of the ferry sector for far too long.
