Transport for London Cuts Protest at Greater London Assembly

From RMT General Secretary Bob Crow

Dear Colleagues,

Transport for London cuts –

Protest at Greater London Assembly at 9am on Wednesday 17 July
Transport for London is planning hundreds of job losses and extensive changes to contracts affecting workers on the Tube and on London Overground.

The details are currently unclear but as we know, TfL have already announced their intention to introduce Driver Only Operation throughout the whole LOROL network. Cuts are unacceptable, and we are pressing for TfL to halt its plans and to engage with us now.

  • Boris Johson Flash Mobbed By Save Earl's Court Campaigners

From Anabela Hardwick of Save Earl's Court campaign

Here is a round up of the Save Earl's Court campaign's eventful morning at City Hall on Tuesday this week. We gathered at 10AM for photographs and Darren Johnson (Green), Nicky Gavron (Labour) and Stephen Knight (Lib Dem) all spoke about why stopping the demolitions is so important.

Then suddenly someone noticed that Boris Johnson was speaking to the press on the small piece of lawn by the side of the Assembly.

So we all ran, placards and banners in hand and flash mobbed him, interrupting his press call.

    TAXIS Lobby Of Parliament

From RMT General Secretary Bob Crow

The Law Commission is currently reviewing all legislation relating to taxi and private hire vehicles. Whilst this review, which officials claim is designed to simplify the legislation, could potentially deregulate the industry and as such is a threat to members’ livelihoods, it also presents us with a number of opportunities.

The interim statement of the Law Commission does not commit to legally defining plying for hire, however, it does acknowledge that a two-tier system must remain in place.
