What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

RMT Rejects Latest LU Pay Offer

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the revised offer from London Underground. Whilst it shows a slight improvement, this offer is still below inflation, does not adequately address our claims for improved conditions, and remains a five-year offer. It therefore falls well short of settlements we have achieved on some other companies, and of our claim for a one-year deal of a substantial increase in pay and improved conditions. We also note that London Underground has confirmed that this is not its final offer.

We therefore reject this offer, and will press the company for significant improvements.

We note that RMT has continued to liaise closely with Unite and TSSA on this issue, and that this has strengthened our ability to achieve a better deal for members. We will continue to invite ASLEF to also be part of this unity between trade unions.

We therefore instruct the General Secretary to:
1. Advise London Underground Ltd of this union's rejection of its pay offer.
2. Write to LU members advising them of our rejection of LU's pay offer, our reasons for rejecting it, and our efforts to secure an improved offer.
3. Post this letter on the union’s website.
4. Keep members informed of all developments and progress in a timely fashion.
5. Include an article in RMT News.

We rename this file LONDON UNDERGROUND PAY AND CONDITIONS 2011.

London Transport Regional Council and branches with London Underground members to be advised.
