RMT continues to oppose ticket office closures

Despite massive opposition from staff and passengers, London Underground has ploughed ahead with its closure programme. The attached spreadsheet, put together by an RMT activist indicates where ticket offices remain open, and their proposed closure dates. The information could be used to assist and encourage other activists to organise protests and activities to voice our opposition against these cuts.

The RMT continues to oppose all closures and demand the reopening of ticket offices. TfL has opened "Visitor Information Centres" in various locations, including King's Cross and Victoria, which include ticket selling facilities. This represents an acknowledgement that at least some stations need a dedicated ticketing facility; these Centres should be converted into proper LU ticket offices, staffed by LU staff!

A recent study commissioned by our sister union TSSA revealed that Tube passengers now face queuing times of up to an hour in locations where ticket offices have closed (for more, see the Hands Off London Transport website here: https://handsofflondontransport.wordpress.com/2015/11/16/queuing-for-an-...)

In the run-up to the Mayoral and London Assembly elections in 2016, RMT will be working with others to raise the issue of ticket offices and seek commitments from candidates that they will reverse closures if elected.
