Following our member’s earlier rejection of LUL’s proposals on Duty Managers Grades Progression, further talks took place to discuss this matter. It is through our members resolve and determination that an improved deal has now been secured by our negotiating team and the General Grades Committee has decided to hold a referendum of Duty Manager Grades with a recommendation to accept.

Voting papers have now been sent out and the closing date is Tuesday 4th January 2011.

I write to update Branches that a resolution was received from our Central Line West Branch alleging unfair and discriminatory practices against members at Shepherds Bush. I am pleased to advise branches that the matter is now been resolved and the General Grades Committee has decided to close the file.

DISMISSAL – K.MORTELL –TRAIN OPERATOR – WHITE CITY, LUL (LUL/4/1)

I write to update Branches that following the unjust economic dismissal of Bro Kevin Mortell and the subsequent industrial action, the General Grades Committee have made the following decision:-

“That we continue to press LUL for a Directors Review and support Brother Mortell in pursuing his Employment Tribunal application”

I will keep all Branches advised of any further developments.

DISMISSAL - RAVI SOORIAH – TRAIN OPERATOR – WEST RUISLIP

All members are advised that the overtime ban is suspended between 00.01 hours Friday 31st December 2010 and 00.01 hours Sunday 2nd January 2011.

Our LU Fleet branch submitted a resolution regarding the unfair treatment of our CMO Fleet members as a result of new imposed London Underground machinery, which has in effect resulted in them not getting the representation they deserve.

This matter has now been considered by the General Grades Committee and the following decision has been taken:-

Firstly I would like to congratulate all London Underground members for the solid strike action that recently took place on 29th and 30th November. Management are under no illusion of the strength of feeling over these dangerous and unnecessary cuts.

Over the course of the last week, the General Grades Committee has met twice to discuss the current dispute with London Underground over their dangerous plans for job cuts and the following decision was taken: -

Following a meeting of the General Grades Committee regarding the above, the following decision has been taken: -

“That having consulted our representatives, and the report from our lead officer in respect of talks with the company. Despite minor concessions, management continue to press ahead with unacceptable proposals on a series of issues. Furthermore there has been a serious failure to consult with this union before impositions of terms and conditions.

I write to advise branches that brother Ravi Sooriah has been dismissed by LUL following an incident of wrong side opening. It is our firm belief that he is being victimised and has been very harshly treated by management. Following a resolution from his branch the General Secretary has decided to ballot all train grade members at West Ruislip for strike action and industrial action short of a strike. Preparations for the ballot are currently taking place and I shall keep branches advised of any further developments.
