RMT Resolution On Steven Simpson's Murder Passed Unanimously At TUC Disabled Workers' Conference

The RMT took a motion on the tragic death of Steven Simpson to the TUC Disability conference. The motion details how Steven, a young gay man who was autistic, was brutally killed. On his 18th birthday, he was doused in tanning oil and set alight - he died the next day.

The judge in the case Roger Keen dismissed the crime as ‘good-natured horseplay’ that had gone too far, and sentenced Sheard to a unusually short sentence of just three and a half years in prison.

Resolution: Election of Equality Representatives

This resolution was passed at LGBT Conference:

Conference calls on the RMT to look at options and practicalities of electing Equality Representatives within companies for whom we have recognition agreements, and further outline and collate a programme for their training needs and requirements for review and acceptance by the RMT Council of Executives.

RMT Hold Protest Outside Ugandan Embassy Over Threat To LGBT Rights

The Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers Union held a protest outside the Ugandan embassy in London over the governments plan to introduce a new law known as the 'Kill the Gays Bill.' If this bill is enacted, Uganda would be one of the legally most discriminatory places for sexual minorities in the world.

RMT members handed out hundreds of leaflets in Trafalgar square and helped to spread awareness of LGBT Ugandan's plight to thousands more with flags and banners which caught the attention of many passers-by. Several people approached us to voice there support for LGBT Ugandan's and disgust at what the government there is planning.
