Edgware Road Station Ticket Office Closure Demo

RMT Bakerloo Branch and Hands Off London Transport have organised a demo against the closure of Edgware Road Bakerloo ticket office.

As well as the evening protest; there will be activities in the morning from 8am to 10am. Please join us.

The HOLT website explains:

After recent actions at Shepherd’s Bush and Highbury & Islington, in conjunction with RMT Central Line West and RMT Finsbury Park branches respectively, Hands Off London Transport links up with RMT Bakerloo branch to leaflet and petition passengers against cuts and ticket office closure at Edgware Road (Bakerloo). Two actions will take place, from 08.00-10.00, and from 16.00-18.00.

Edgware Road (Bakerloo Line) serves a busy and diverse area, including several important local community institutions such as the City of Westminster College’s Paddington Green campus, home to over 7,000 full and part-time Further Education students.

Despite the station’s vital function in serving the community, and despite year-on-year increases in passenger footfall, London Underground plans to slash staffing levels at the station by 50% in early 2016, and close the station’s ticket office in July 2015.

Numbers of “full-time equivalent” staff on the station will be cut from 15.2 to 8.1 under LU’s plans. This means: fewer staff around the help passengers when they need assistance. And, with no ticket office, what happens when the machines aren’t working?

Staffing cuts will also mean more stress and overwork for Tube workers, as well as forcing many workers to displace to other locations to keep their salaries.

RMT Bakerloo branch and HOLT will demonstrate at Edgware Road on 25 February to highlight the damaging effect these cuts will have, and ask passengers to take a stand against them.

Join us to build support for a well-staffed, properly-funded Tube network with functioning ticket offices, run in the interests of public service, not profit.

For shift workers on late turns, and anyone else not able to make the 16:00 start time, we will also be leafleting and petitioning from 08:00 to 10:00. Please join us when you can!
