Demonstration in Support of Alberto Durango and the Cleaners

A demonstration is to take place at the offices of UBS at 100, Liverpool Street, EC2, to protest against the actions of Lancaster (Rentokil).

Alberto Durango was sacked from Lancaster on 4th February 2010 for organising the workers and standing up for their rights. Alberto is a good friend of London RMT Bus Workers and they are asked to attend and give their support to him and the cleaners.

The cleaners are being pressured to agree to a cut in working hours with subsequent loss of pay while still being expected to do the same amount of work.

In June last year, the company imposed a change in working conditions. All full time night cleaners became part time working 4 hours only. The day cleaners had a one hour meal break in their 8 hour working day. The company added an extra working hour in order to compensate itself for the one hour unpaid meal break it was giving it's workers, so cleaners had to be at work 9 hours to get paid for 8 hours.

Now, a renewed attack is being made on their pay and conditions. The night cleaners hours are to be reduced from 4 hours to 3 hours and the 8 paid hours are to be reduced to 7 hours.

The cleaners are very worried and angry. Now more than ever they need our support and solidarity. Please come to the demonstration on Friday 19th March 2010 from 5pm - 6pm. For more information please click here
