Meeting Agenda

RMT Pledges To Fight Tory Attack On Pensioners Travel

RMT pledges to fight Cameron-ally Nick Boles attack on pensioners travel.

RMT General Secretary Bob Crow said

"Nick Boles speaks for the rotten core of the Tory party when he lines up his attack on pensioners' free travel and other well-earned benefits. He knows full well that means-testing the travel pass would stop many who need it from claiming it - cutting off their lifeline and leaving them isolated from the wider world. The Tory right are using the bankers' economic crisis as a cover to take the axe to core pensioners' benefits and we will fight them all the way.

Unions Oppose TfL Attempt to Divide Equalities

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the documentation on file regarding TfL’s proposal to divide its Equality and Inclusion team into two parts, one for staff issues and one for service delivery. We endorse the objections that staff side have raised to this proposal. We further believe that this division inaccurately implies a significant difference between equalities issues facing workers and those facing passengers, whereas workers and passengers share similar a interest in an accessible, non-discriminatory transport system.

London Underground and Age Discrimination

cartoonRMT General Grades Committee decision:

London Transport Regional Council and branches with London Underground members to be advised.

Retirement at 65 - Does LU Comply with the Law?

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note our Regional Organiser’s report that London Underground appears to be in compliance with age discrimination legislation. We instruct the General Secretary to obtain legal advice to confirm this.

We also note our Regional Organiser’s recommendation that our membership database be equipped to ‘flag up’ members six months before their 65th birthday and send them a letter outlining their rights. We refer this suggestion to Council of Executives.
