Resolution: Cleaners in Engineering spheres of influence

The following resolution was carried at the LU Engineering branch meeting on 19 May 2009

"Proposal to LU Engineering branch from Cleaning Grade Secretary

While we accept that Finsbury Park branch has done an excellent job in organising the cleaners, we feel that it would be in the best interests of cleaners employed in the engineering sector to now have their interests looked after by the engineering and fleet branches. The reps in these branches meet the cleaners in their area on a regular basis and are familiar with problems which affect them. This would also lead to cleaner integration of our cleaning members into the affairs of the union.

In the light of the above we propose that:

1 The Engineering branch takes over the cleaners in their spheres of influence.

2 The secretary of the engineering branch writes formally to the executive and the regional organiser to officially expedite this proposal.

3 That this branch would work with the cleaning grade committee to see to the smooth transition process.

4 Extraordinary meeting to be arranged, with Fleet branch and Finsbury Park representatives being invited, to discuss spheres of influence and finalise agreement."
