RMT Considers Tube Lines Pay Offer

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the proposal from Tube Lines to extend the current 3-year pay deal for a further 2 years, increasing wages by RPI+0.5% (minimum 2%) from 1 April 2013 and again from 1 April 2014.

We instruct the General Secretary to obtain a report on the views of our lead officer, representatives, branches and members about this proposal, and to place this report in front of us by 31 January.

London Transport Regional Council and branches to be advised.

RMT Demands Proper Consultation on Service Control Move to Hammersmith

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the report from our Regional Organiser outlining our representatives’ concerns about lack on consultation about the planned transfer of SSR and Piccadilly Line service control to a new control centre at Hammersmith. We note that our Regional Organiser has called a meeting open to all service control members on 31 January.

We instruct the General Secretary to:

  • obtain a report of the Joint Working Party meeting due to take place on 19 January;

RMT Rejects London Underground's 'Derisory, Inadequate' Olympics Offer

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the offer from London Underground to operational staff of:

  • £100 depending on meeting ’Customer Satisfaction Survey’ targets
  • £15 per shift during the Games only (total of 4 weeks) to reflect changed working patterns. The target includes ‘staff availability’ on an Underground system which has seen dramatic staffing cuts over recent years.

We reject this derisory, inadequate offer on the following grounds:

RMT Sets Reduced-Rate Subscription for Initial Cleaners and Sodexho Canteen Staff

Canteen rep Petrit Mihaj

RMT has agreed reduced-rate subscriptions of £1 per week for workers at Initial Cleaners and Sodexho canteens in London Transport. This reduced rate is part of our organising campaign to achieve recognition in these two companies, and will be reviewed in 12 months' time.

Review of London Underground Industrial Relations: What Do You Think?

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the report from Professor Goodman on industrial disputes on London Underground. We agree to seek comments from our Regional Organiser, and from our London Underground branches and representatives, and instruct the General Secretary to place this issue back in front of us once these comments have been received.

LTDA Articles About RMT

RMT General Grades Committee:

That we note the legal advice received from Thompsons and are disappointed to learn that the chances of legal success in cases of defamation are very slim indeed. We therefore note that letters have been sent to the LTDA and the publishers of ‘Taxi’ and instruct the General Secretary to place any responses back in front of the General Grades Committee.

Taxi Emissions

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the correspondence from the London Taxi Branch regarding the 15 year vehicle age limit to be imposed on the London Taxi trade as part of proposals to reduce vehicle. We note that there is a conversion kit available for buses that allow them to become compliant with EURO 4 emissions regulations and have been made aware that such a conversion kit could be made available for the older black cabs.

RMT Steps Up Campaign to Staff Our Stations

That we note a number of issues were discussed including the ‘Together for Transport’ campaign and the TSSA requested the RMT inject resources into this campaign. However, after further discussion that ‘Together for Transport’ is TSSA’s front organisation and therefore propose that the RMT do not inject any resources into this campaign at this time, but work closely with it through the SOS campaign. One area discussed was the need for both unions to undertake a mapping exercise of our membership that currently work on stations.
