What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

RMT To Push For Release Of Cleaner Reps To Organise Members

TERMS & CONDITIONS – CLEANERS, TRANSPORT FOR LONDON CONTRACTS (LUL/14/2)

Further to my previous Circular No. IR/172/14, 25th June 2014, the Lead Officer sought release for our cleaning representatives to carry out an effective organising and recruitment campaign for cleaner grades. The General Grades Committee has now further considered this matter and noted that our expectations of our campaign to recruit and organise cleaners on TfL contracts have not been realised, which has been compounded by the lack of cooperation from the company when requesting time off for our representatives, especially within Interserve. We must therefore use the machinery in place to request our trade union rights for time off to organise and recruit within a recognised workplace.

I am now pursuing the release for our cleaner representatives to be present at all inductions for the respective cleaning companies and will keep you advised of all further developments.
