What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

RMT To Ballot Cubic Transportation Members For Strike Action Following Paltry Pay Offer

We note the report from our Regional Organiser, who met with Cubic Transportation services
today to discuss our pay claim and an Olympic bonus. The company:

  • was not prepared to give an Olympic bonus
  • offered a paltry 2.5 % pay rise
  • rejected totally our claims for a shorter working week

We note that some staff are still on a 37.5 hour week, while some are on 35 hours. Rates of
pay vary, with many people on individual contracts who receive no pay rise. Many staff do
not have free travel and get no travel allowance.

We accept our Regional Organiser’s recommendations, and therefore instruct the General
Secretary to:

  • declare a dispute with the company
  • ballot our members for strike action and action short of a strike
  • support and resource a recruitment campaign to run parallel with the ballot
  • arrange the production of a leaflet for recruitment purposes containing our demands
  • seek the assistance of our London Underground stations representatives in ensuring
that these leaflets are displayed and distributed in all station booking-on points and
    ticket offices

London Transport Regional Council, our Cubic representative, Stations & Revenue Grades
Committee officers and all branches with London Underground members to be advised
