What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

Piccadilly Line drivers could be balloted if important training isn't reinstated

We note the resolution from our Piccadilly & District West Branch and the sentiments within; and we are completely opposed to the withdrawal of practical training of the very dangerous reversing move on the east bound platform at Kings Cross (reversing east to west), for Piccadilly Line Train Operators.

This exceptionally difficult move has been withdrawn from training purely to save money and it will put the travelling public in danger and put train operators jobs at risk.

We General Secretary to arrange a consultation meeting between the Regional Organiser and senior officials from both Piccadilly & District West and Finsbury Park branches and convene a meeting between the Regional Organiser and Brian Woodhead JNP Director and get this very important reversing move back in training on the Piccadilly Line.

Further, if this fails to resolve the issue; we instruct the General Secretary to ballot all RMT Train Operators and Instructor Operators on the Piccadilly Line for action short of strike with particular reference to not performing the Kings Cross east to west move until it is practically back in training and every train operator has performed the move at least twice in training.

Members to be advised by email and text.

Relevant Branches and the London Transport Regional Council to be advised.
