Picc Line drivers' strike announced

BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS, TRAIN OPERATORS, PICCADILLY LINE – LONDON UNDERGROUND (LUL/14/2)

Further to my previous Circular (IR/345/16, 17th November 2016) and following the recent ballot result in favour of taking further strike action and action short of a strike over the long-running and unresolved issues affecting members on the Piccadilly Line, the National Executive Committee noted the views from a meeting of RMT Reps and has taken the decision to call on all affected members NOT TO BOOK ON for any shifts that commence between:-

  • 21:30 hours on Tuesday 6th December 2016 and 21:29 hours on Wednesday 7th December 2016

Some of the issues leading to this breakdown in industrial relations date back as far as last year, but rather than any improvement, new issues have arisen. These include an assertion from the Director of Employee Relations that staff other than the Driver have the final say on the serviceability and safety of a train; new issues at Cockfosters Depot and yet another example of breaches of policy regarding Brother Gary Fitzpatrick who has been left at risk in the workplace by management failures.

Further discussions with the Company are due to take place and this matter will be considered again by the NEC on Thursday 8th December 2016. I will of course keep you advised of all developments.
